Tory Minister Meets Hospitality Graduates

The minister of state for employment, Esther McVey recently visited the town of Stourbridge to meet some of the 16 employees that had found permanent jobs after graduating from the government-backed initiative called sector-based Work Academies.

McVey, visited the Whitbread owned Premier Inn and Brewers Fayre in Birmingham New Street, taking a tour of the hotel and its facilities. The site opened on 18 December last year and created 60 new jobs.

The aim of the government initiative is to provide unemployed youngsters with training in the hospitality sector and give them the chance to carry out work experience placements for a number of weeks, with a guaranteed job interview at the end.

McVey said it was a pleasure to meet the new recruits and added: “Companies like Premier Inn and Brewers Fayre are giving local people a chance, and it’s rewarding to meet some of the young people today, whose dream of escaping unemployment and building a career is starting to become a reality.”
