Stonegate wins training Award

Stonegate Pub Company has won the Innovation in Training Award at the Scottish Training Federation’s annual awards.

The award was announced at the Scottish Training Federation Annual Conference, Dinner and Awards Ceremony on Wednesday 1st October. The theme of the conference was ‘Developing Scottish Skills for Tomorrow’s World’ with emphasis on the importance of the Modern Apprenticeship programme.

The Innovation in Training award, for an outstanding example of ‘Work Based Learning’ (Apprenticeships), was presented to members of Stonegate Pub Company’s HR team in recognition its successful Albert’s Apprenticeships.

Albert’s Apprenticeships, Stonegate’s own in-house apprenticeship scheme, was created in 2013. Nationally recognised, the scheme offers eight types of apprenticeships for employees in both front and back of house pub roles. In its first year 300 young people have been given Albert’s apprenticeships positions.

Lee Woolley, Head of Learning and Development at Stonegate Pub Company said: “We are thrilled to accept this award for our Albert’s Apprenticeship scheme. It was just a year ago that we first introduced our own nationally recognised apprenticeship scheme. Tailored to suit our business, it has been hugely popular with an immediate uptake of 300. The apprenticeships offer young people starting out in the business the skills and knowledge to build a fulfilling career in our company. Designed to be hands-on and engaging, the aim of the apprenticeship is to create a lifelong love of working in hospitality.”

“We are now working on the next stage of our Albert’s Apprenticeships, a Stonegate specific level 3 for management teams”, added Woolley.

Stonegate Pub Company was also shortlisted for Large Employer of the Year Award.
