Great British Pub Awards 2014

The best licensees in the country were recognised and celebrated last night at the Publican’s Morning Advertiser’s Great British Pub Awards.

The Grafton in Kentish Town, run by licensees Susie Clarke and Joel Czopor was named the Great British Pub of the Year 2014. The Publican’s Morning Advertiser’s group editor Rob Willock praised the licensees’ dedication to developing new business ideas whilst ensuring that the Grafton remains true to the ideals of a traditional pub.

In the past year a new all-weather roof terrace has opened at The Grafton which has seen sales increase by 40%. The pub also offers eight rotating ales, local craft beers and wines and prosecco on tap.

The Best Bar Team award went to the staff at The Botanist, Trinity, Leeds. The award recognises a bar team that effectively works together to provide excellent customer service and also drive drinks sales.

Other winners on the night included Matt Samuel from Pig on the Hill, Westward Ho!, Devon who won the Best Newcomer award and the Cartford Inn, Eccleston in Lancashire which won Best Freehouse.
