BII---Awards---London---13th-May-2014---359

Callum Gallagher from Ramside Hall Hotel, Durham, was presented with the coveted British Institute of Innkeeping (BII) Apprentice of the Year Award.

The award ceremony took place on Tuesday 13th May, in front of an audience of pub industry professionals at the BII annual lunch at Grosvenor House in London.

Three years after the launch of the BII Apprenticeship in Licensed Hospitality, this new award celebrates the great strides the sector has made in the recruitment of apprentices. The prize was awarded to the candidate who had most benefited from the apprenticeship and had best complimented the business. All finalists were nominated by their peers.

Callum started his BII Apprenticeship in October 2012 and has progressed from Room Attendant to Trainee Manager at the 4* hotel in under two years. This award recognises Callum’s dedication to professional development.

As reported in the Sunderland Echo, Callum said: “It has given me lots of confidence and made me determined to succeed and make something of my life.”

“I’m proud to have won a national award, especially as the standards were so high.”

John Adamson, managing director of Ramside Estates, which owns the Ramside Hall Hotel, said: “Callum has proven himself to be focused and driven when it comes to advancing his knowledge and career, and he’s certainly impressed his peers through his determination.”

The finalists:

Amy Chuter, The Old House at Home, Portsmouth

Scott Parkin The Woodman, Farnborough Village, Kent
